COURSE DESCRIPTION

Ribbon fiber has been around for over 35 years, and now the technology is changing to accommodate the needs of the market. This course will cover the transition of fiber optic cables over the years and advancement in the technology, while looking at the advantages and benefits of such a transition.

This presentation was originally delivered as part of the September 2021 BICSI vICT Forum.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Adam Broughton, Sumitomo Electric USA 

Adam Broughton is a Senior Technical Manager at Sumitomo Electric USA, working with fusion splicers, connectors, and related products. Adam has an engineering degree from Penn State University and 25 years of experience in the fiber optics industry, where he has worked with optical cables and connectors and has been granted patents for both. In his free time, he frequently designs and builds projects for his family and friends from various media including wood, steel, and 3-D printed plastic. He also enjoys spending time outdoors, either in the woods hiking trails or on the water with a fishing rod.
